Thanks Pete! You're right - leaving it in the hands of your supporters to define responses can lead to some amazing interactions and ideas. And it's always nice when someone in your community goes in to bat for you!

I'm ready for Hipster Racism to be dead too. Seems it was the only place to go once shock humour stopped being shocking after years of Family Guy reruns. Please tell me there's a new kind of humour waiting in the wings because this one is played. I vote for Dimitri Martin.

Great suggestions, Jilly! I've had this discussion about a couple of different projects and I agree, if you're going to use social media, you've got to take lumps. If it's an idea worth keeping, supporters are the best ones to define a response.

Louis C.K. had a really good take on this very issue in his interview with Conan O'Brien:

And those Russian athletes don't just look angry, they actually are!

Very true. I found out that I got into Bishop's when the basketball coach - who is now a good friend of mine - called my mom. And then my dad spent 45 minutes on the phone (mostly nodding and saying 'uh-huh, I see') with a professor from the History department, because that's what I wanted to study and my dad wanted to make sure that they knew what they were doing.

Pretty great.

Thanks for the comment!

Preach! I was thinking the same thing when I read the Academica Top 10 this week.

I found out I was accepted at Bishop's after my mom texted me that she had just got off the phone with a BU student welcoming me to the university.

Then, two years later I was the one making those calls. It's a magical place.

We need more cultural entrepreneurs who move & shake their own local spheres. If we all had a heightened sense of expectation, we could all kick butt. Don't show up to a concert and blame the crowd for being dead. Decide - are you a sheep or something higher up on the food chain.
